Happiness

Happiness is referred to as subjective well-being because it is a result of a combination of factors that mostly revolve around how a person feels. There are two major factors that affects how a person feels at a particular time:satisfaction with life and emotions. The pertinent question is: what makes a person satisfied with their life? What influences a person’s emotions? One major factor is perception: How you see where you are relative to where you want to be or think you should be.How you interpret the events in your life. Your Moods and emotions relative to your daily experiences.

We need to be conscious of the major determinants of our happiness especially since there is increasing evidence that happiness and well being are very well interlinked.

Being in a relationship,  earning well ergo job satisfaction, social support mostly gotten from being part of a community,  a balanced social life among others are all things that seem to cause happiness.  On the other hand, desiring wealth and comparing yourself with people creates negative feelings.

Since happiness is such an important part of well-being and hugely determined by our perceptions, we can and should make the conscious decision to be positive and not encumbered by the daily worries we face.  We stand to gain a lot most important of which is increased longevity for example, a study on nuns found that the happier nuns at the point of entry into a convent towards the latter part of their years, lived longer than their less happy counterparts.

The way we perceive the things that happen to us and around us is a major determinant of our happiness. A positive  outlook on life is very important.

My own tiny advice? See it this way…nothing happening to you is new and no matter what is happening, there are people going through worse…its all about relativity
