On rape contd…

I think teaching children and young girls to be weary of men might seem extreme to some people but talk to a victim or someone closely related to them and you will know that nothing is extreme as long as you are protecting your child or loved ones.

Unassuming young girls falling prey to predators under different guises…I’m your favorite uncle, I want to send you on an errand, come in and help me clean, I love you come sit on my lap…oh she is so cute or just the outright violent stranger. But reports have shown that most of the reported rape cases were perpetuated by someone familiar. One girl was reported to be raped by a neighbor who lured her into his flat under the guise of sending her on an errand…said neighbor and his two friends proceeded to rape the girl.

Sometimes they are groomed but most times they are just opportunistic crimes…this is why we should teach our children to keep themselves safe and protect them.

They should also be taught to continuously be aware of their environment, walk briskly at all times and run at the slightest feeling or appearance of funny behavior. They should learn to be weary of the opposite sex who treats them differently (good or bad) because a lot of mind games go on

If all else fails, don’t just lie there…fight! Leave evidence that will show you were raped and scream as loud as you can.

I’m surely not an expert on the subject so you don’t have to be one to teach your children how to be safe…a little reading on the subject wont hurt.

It is better for your children to be perceived as rude than for them to become victims of sexual predators…no jumping on uncles,no going into anybody’s house. Whatever the transaction or exchange, let it happen where people can see you.

No lapping, no kissing, no excessive playing, no nothing! Do not create the room for grooming or abuse. Be attentive to your children and their relationships (Of course this applies to your children or relatives). Let us not forget the boys, they also are victims of sexual abuse.

You might offend the sensitivities of some uncle or relative or friend but your primary responsibility is to that child! It is better to be safe than sorry.
